Bitter and Twisted Beer Festival, held in the Hunter Valley town of Maitland, is a weekend festival of beer. With over 50 boutique beers and ciders available for sampling along with wonderful international foods and entertainment.
Held at the begining of November each year in Maitland Gaol, Bitter and Twisted Beer Festival celebrates Australias love of beer, with many boutique brewers showcasing beers over the weekend. This year included Morpeth Brewery and Beer Co., Six String Brewing Co., Two Birds Brewing and Lovedale Brewery. A more extensive list can be seen on the Bitter and Twisted web site.
Even with the festival being very popular, queuing for a taste never takes long thanks to the token system. You buy tokens at entry and at various locations through the site. They are $1 per token in $5.00 lots, and you pay for your beer and food using tokens, saving having to deal with change and EFTPOS transactions. 1 token for 100ml of beer and the sample glass is 200ml. While you may not think this is enough, it is the perfect size to roam around and sample the different beers (& ciders) available at the festival.
There are also home brew sessions and a food & beer matching lunch available on tickets purchased online before the event.
Along with all the beers to sample comes some very delicious foods from the Hunter Valley area to international tastes such as Portuguese, German, Mexican along with fish & chips and the like. Vegetarian and gluten free are also catered for.
Roaming entertainment can be found throughout the festival grounds. Musicians and acrobats keep the crowds entertained as they sample the wonderful beers and food. A main stage also has a good lineup including Troy Durose, The Beards and Jebediah and others.
A great Hunter festival to celebrate beer and enjoy a day with friends, and Sunday is a family day with a section with face painting and other kids activities.
Don’t miss it for 2015
