I love exploring through the Hunter Wetlands Centre, where I found this wetlands duck resting on a branch. There are many peaceful walks through the paths of the wetlands area and you cant walk more than a few meters without seeing the many different types of bird life in this sanctuary. The wetlands web site lists 213 different species of birds that visit, the bulk of which are wetland species, but also include raptors, pigeons, parrots, cockatoos, cuckoos and honey eaters.
The Hunter Wetlands Centre is 10 minutes from Newcastle, and works in wetlands conservation, education and tourism. They cater for birthday parties, special events during school holidays, corporate training and guided tours. They also have canoeing, walking and segway tours.
